EMN Asylum and Migration Glossary
The European Migration Network (EMN) Asylum and Migration Glossary provides a comprehensive and harmonised overview of more than 540 technical terms in the field of migration and asylum. It offers standardised definitions used across the European Union, along with verified translations into 27 European languages.
The glossary is developed in cooperation with EMN National Contact Points and key European institutions, including the European Commission, the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA), the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), as well as international organisations such as UNHCR and IOM.
It is intended for policymakers, experts, journalists, academics, and the general public. It helps to harmonise terminology, improve clarity, and support informed decision-making in the field of migration and asylum.
The interactive online version of the glossary enables quick term searches, browsing by alphabet, and a clear display of relationships between individual terms. The definitions are regularly updated in line with developments in European legislation, including the Pact on Migration and Asylum.
